The middle-class A4 model appeared at the end of 1994 as the successor to the 80 model. The second generation of this vehicle went into production in October 2000, and a year later was followed by the estate body version called the Avant. In 2004 in Paris, a modernized version of this model was presented, provided with significant changes in body styling, a new Single Frame for the front grill, and an expanded range of power plants. The model currently employs well-know units: the 1.6-liter 102 hp plant, the 20-valve 2.0-liter 130 hp engine, and the 1.8-liter 163 hp turbo diesel, as well as the modern, direct fuel injection, 2.0-liter TFSI 200 hp and 3.2-liter FSI 255 hp V6 engines. A majority of buyers chooses the Audi A4 with the renowned TDI engine developing 105 hp in the 1.9-liter version, a 2.0-liter 140 hp unit, a 2.5-liter 163 hp V6, or a 3.0-liter 204 hp V6 plant. Selected engines come with an automatic DSG gearbox as well as the Quattro all-wheel drive system.
