The first Audi model to be marked as the A6 appeared in 1994. Between 1997 and 2004, the second generation of the model was produced, and at the beginning of 2004 in Geneva the third generation of the A6 was presented, initially as a sedan, and since the fall of that year also as an Avant. The new Audi A6 is a vehicle larger than its predecessor, also featuring a higher class. The model has not only received a completely new body with the characteristic air inlet grill, but also a new range of power plants. The basic petrol engine is the 2.4-liter 177 hp V6 unit. Beside that, a new, directly injected, 3.2-liter 255 hp FSI V6 engine and the well-known 4.2-liter 335 hp V8 engine are available. The new range of the extremely coveted diesel power plants comprises a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter TDI unit of 140 hp and two V6 TDI units: a 2.7-liter 180 hp and a 3.0-liter 225 hp engine. Most of the aforementioned plants work with the Quattro power powertrain system and modern Multitronic or Tiptronic gearboxes.
