The first prototype of the Audi A6 able to drive on unhardened road surfaces was presented in New York in 1998, while the official premiere of the Allroad Quattro was held in Geneva in 2000. This model employs the raised body of the previous Audi A6 Avant version, and a pneumatic suspension that allows electronically controlled body clearance adjustment, which comes in really useful in more difficult road conditions. The Allroad Quattro’s power source is a 2.7-liter Biturbo V6 petrol engine of 250 hp, and a 2.5-liter TDI V6 diesel engine of 163 or 180 hp; since 2002, a 4.2-liter 300 hp V8 unit has also been available. All versions feature all-wheel drive as standard, with a reduction gearbox available upon request.
