The racing variant of the 5 series model is traditionally marked as the M5. The first vehicle to be marked so appeared at the end of 1988, while the currently available third generation of the model was presented in Paris in 2004. Although the vehicle utilizes basic design elements of the 5 series model, the scope of changes resulting from the performance and the destination of the vehicle covers almost all of its subsystems. On the other hand, the power train comprising a racing 5.0-liter 507 hp V10 engine, an automated, 7-speed gearbox, and a differential furnished with an automatic system of internal friction adjustment, is thoroughly different. Moreover, the vehicle has been provided with a full package of systems supporting the drivetrain and the operation of the chassis’ mechanisms. The M5 model presents the top achievement of automotive technology.
