In 2002, Mercedes-Benz revived the Maybach brand and started the production of the representative 57 and 62 models, differing in body length. The relaunch was an answer to BMW and VW acquisitions of British brands of Rolls-Royce and Bentley, whose products enjoy similar renown as the Maybach limousines did in the years 1921-41. Designers with DaimlerChrysler saw to the technical aspect, mounting the best solutions that had been comprehensively proven in the S-Class Mercedes-Benz limousines, like the V12 engine, a 5-speed automatic gearbox, the Airmatic pneumatic suspension, or the electrohydraulic Sensotronic brakes. In a Maybach, a 5.5-liter 550 hp V12 engine is enhanced by two turbochargers. At the beginning of 2005 in Geneva, a version of the vehicle marked as the 57S was presented, featuring an 612 hp engine. Maybach vehicles are sold upon individual orders, via a specially developed commercial network with its agencies located in 50 selected cities of the world.
