The new SLK model was presented in Geneva in 2004, replacing the first generation produced since 1996. As compared to the predecessor, the new vehicle has a bigger body containing styling elements known from the sports SLR model. Traditionally, this 2-seat roadster features a mechanism which changes the open roadster into a closed coupe within 22 seconds. Initially, the offer featured the SLK 200 model equipped with a 1.8-liter plant with a mechanical charger of 163 hp, the SLK 350 with a new 3.5-liter 272 hp V6 engine, and the exclusive SLK 55 with a 5.4-liter 360 hp V8 engine developed by the AMG. At the beginning of 2005, the offer was supplemented with the SLK 280 with a new 3.0-liter plant developing 231 hp, and a prototype of the SLK 320 CDI equipped with a new diesel engine of a 3.0-liter capacity that, thanks to the three turbo-chargers, develops 286 hp. As announced, the model will soon be available on the market.
