E-Class models entered the range of Mercedes Benz models in 1993. Today, the third generation of the model is offered, presented as a sedan at the 2002 Brussels Motor Show, and in the estate body version at the beginning of 2003. In the fall of 2003, the 4Matic system was introduced, eguipped with selected petrol engines, and pneumatic suspension in the most expensive variants. At present, only the basic 1.8-liter 163 hp has four cylinders. Since the end of 2004, the E model has been available with new V6 engines: a 3.0-liter 231 hp and a 3.5-liter 272 hp plant. It also comes with a 5.0-liter 306 hp V8 engine, and the 55 AMG version – with a 5.4-liter 476 hp V8 unit. Most of the E-Class models are equipped with 2.2-liter diesel engines of 122 or 150 hp, a new 3.0-liter 190 or 224 hp plant, and a powerful 4.0-liter 260 hp V8 unit. Like the other Mercedes-Benz models, the E symbol does not reflect the capacity of the applied engine anymore.
