In 2004 in Geneva, a brand new CLS model was presented. It is a large, 4-door coupe with a sport- -styled, streamlined body. The vehicle employs design elements and drive systems of the E-Class limousine, yet the outer appearance does not imply this. For the time being, the CLS model is only offered with a new 3.5-liter 272 hp V6 engine or a 5.0-liter 306 hp V8 plant, and a 5.4-liter 476 hp developed by the AMG. The CLS is thought to be a niche vehicle, yet it is the very first to show the direction in which the development of all Mercedes-Benz models is proceeding.
