Coupe models, constructed on the basis of the S- -Class, have been manufactured since 1981. The luxurious CL coupe offered now had its premiere in Geneva in 1999, and the modernized version was shown in Paris in 2002. The vehicle is now offered in the CL 500 and the CL 600, as well as the sports CL 55 AMG and CL65 AMG variants. The first employs a 5.0-liter 306 hp V8 engine, the second – a 5.5-liter 500 hp V12 plant, and the AMG versions come with a 5.4-liter 500 hp V8 and a 6.0-liter 612 hp V12 engine. Standard equipment in this 4-seat coupe includes, among others, an electronic system of suspension adjustment, automatically selecting the characteristics depending on the roughness of the surface and driving style.
