The SLR McLaren model, whose prototype was previously presented in 1999, became an instant star at the 2003 Frankfurt/Main Motor Show. It is a top level racing vehicle, harking back to vehicles of similar class produced back in the 1950s. Its new edition was developed in cooperation with the British McLaren, which specializes in designing Formula 1 vehicles. The body was made of carbon fibre, the brake disks – of ceramic agglomerates, and the whole vehicle is stuffed with electronic steering and control systems. The engine of the SLR model, a mechanically charged 5.4-liter 626 hp V8 unit, is placed behind the front axle. The car develops a speed of 100 km/h within 3.8 seconds, and has a maximum speed is 334 km/h. The SLR McLaren, defined by the manufacturer as the Grand Tourismo of the 21st century, has undoubtedly earned the name.
