The 3 series Cabriolet has been produced by BMW since 1986, and the Coupe – since 1992. In its present form, the second generation Coupe was presented in Geneva at the beginning of 1999, and a year later, also in Geneva, the third generation Cabriolet. At the beginning of 2003 in Detroit, the two models appeared in a slightly modified form. The two feature engines taken from the previous 3 series: 2.0-liter 143 hp, 2.2-liter 170 hp, 2.5-liter 192 hp, 3.0-liter 231 hp petrol engines, or 2.0-liter 150 hp and 3.0-liter 204 hp diesel plants. Due to its exclusive character, both the Coupe and the Cabriolet differ from the other BMW 3 series versions in price and standard.
