The model labeled as the CLK appeared in 1997, and since the first presentation in Geneva in 2002, the second generation has been available. At the beginning of 2005, the model was modernized, and provided with a new range of engines. The design of this 4-seat coupe derives from the C-Class model. The CLK is considered one of the most legant Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The car employs selected engines of the C-Class model. At present, they include the turbocharged 1.8-liter 163 or 170 hp units, new 3.0-liter and 3.5-liter V6 engines of 231 and 272 hp, a powerful 5.4-liter V8 plant of 367 hp developed by the AMG, and 2.2-liter 150 hp or a new 3.0-liter 224 hp diesel engines. The CLK 500 model is also offered with a 5.0-liter 306 hp V8 engine.
